eCitizen website (ecitizen.go.ke) is an aggregated portal for governmental agencies and county governments to offer various services online.

You can access all the governmental agencies on eCitizen via this link; https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke/en/agencies. The agencies are arranged in a grid format in alphabetical order.

You will notice very quickly that to access any of the agencies you have to log in, and so it goes if you need to search for the owner of a vehicle on eCitizen, you must first ensure that your account is active and updated. So here is where we shall start, as the procedure is not very straightforward.

To find the owner of a vehicle on the eCitizen website, you will first need to log in to the eCitizen online portal using your individual credentials, that is, you will be required to enter your login (username and password) credentials to access the services.

There are only four groups or categories of people who can register and log in to the eCitizen online portal, these are;

• 1. Kenyan citizens who will use their National Identification Card details, with their National Identification Number (Shortened as “ID Number”) as their Username on the registration page and login pages,

As would be expected of any strict registration process, that is; one that does not give options of logging in through various authenticated channels such as LinkedIn, Facebook or Google, some individuals may encounter challenges in accessing eCitizen services. The registration process is strict and a bit complex because it is a crucial step that is required especially when performing some sensitive personalized services such as applying for a passport, birth or marriage certificates or a driving license.

So, once you have Registered for an eCitizen Account, these are the steps to follow to acquire a vehicle’s ownership details;

• 1. Go to https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke/en and select “Sign in”

• 2. Enter your Username and Password. Remember, the Username is based on the category of User you are, as aforementioned in this article, you will Enter in the respective field the relevant Identification Document Number.

• 3. Choose the channel to receive the OTP to complete the OTP Verification and Log In. OTP is acronym for “One Time Password”, which is an alphanumeric short code that is sent to your phone or email that you use as an added security step for authentication during log ins. In the case of eCitizen, the OTP is a six-digit code with five letters and one numeric character.

• 4. You are now logged in, as can be confirmed by your details appearing at the header of the page;

• 5. On the Header Section of your Dashboard, where the main “Menu” appears, Select “Services” Option which is next to the highlighted “Home” Menu Item.

• 6. A list of Services available will appear in a tabulated format of two columns and six rows. Select “Motor Vehicle Copy of Records” option by clicking on the “Apply” button.

  This will lead to the ‘Search’ page. Here is where you enter the unique identifiers of the vehicle you would like to search, that is, either the Vehicle Registration or Chasis Number.
  Once you have Entered the Vehicle Registration or Chasis Number, Press the “Search” button, then the “Submit” button by first clicking on the “Search” button, the details entered are captured, by clicking on the “Submit” button, they are submitted for processing.
• 7. You will now need to select a mode of payment and follow the steps corresponding to each selection to complete the payment.

• 8. On the next page, on the right side of the screen, under “Downloads”, click on the “Download” button to get the Copy of Records, it will open in a pdf format.
